I've changed my mind about 'as if' - it's not that easy ...
And I have made some necessary changes the bit about Kripke.
Commercial and therapeutic uses of language challenge the slightly constrained models of truth telling that have been derived from the usages of the hard and soft sciences. They also suggests some alternative, and fruitful, approaches to a variety of ancient and intractable problems.
